(BANDUNG, UNISA-BANDUNG) Yusnita Issa Riyadi, a student of the Visual Communication Design (DKV) Study Program at Universitas 'Aisyiyah Bandung, won First Place in VAFEST 2. With an illustration of fruit beautified with a splash of water effect, she captivated the judges and excelled in the Basic Drawing category at the student level.
"This work was inspired by the natural beauty of the shape of the fruit which I added with a splash of water effect to make it look more alive and dynamic," said Yusnita, Monday (02/12/2024).
She explained that the process of working on her work began with in-depth observation of the original shape of the object, continued with a sketch, and ended with coloring. In the coloring stage, Yusnita applied various techniques, including under color layering which involves mixing base colors to create harmony.
"Each fruit has a different texture, so I did a lot of experiments to make sure the texture details looked right. I even took a test shot before starting to work on the main image," she explained.
Even so, working on this work was not without challenges. Yusnita admitted that the detailing stage was the most difficult part, especially to show the texture of the fruit to the details of its pores and the water splash effect which was the first time she tried it.
"The water effect was the biggest challenge, but I'm happy I was able to get through it well," she added.
VAFEST 2, which lasted for three months, from September 1 to December 2, 2024, competed in various fine arts categories, one of which was Basic Drawing. This competition was attended by students from various universities, so Yusnita's achievement was a source of pride.
"It feels amazing to be able to compete with students from other universities and finally come out as the winner. I hope to continue to improve my abilities and win competitions again in the future," said Yusnita enthusiastically.
She also hopes that her achievements can inspire her juniors to achieve the same or better achievements. Yusnita's brilliant achievement is not only a source of personal pride, but also further establishes the DKV Study Program of Universitas 'Aisyiyah Bandung as an institution that is able to produce talented and competitive young artists on the national stage (*)
